  • Miss Julie McBirnie

    MB BCh, FRCS (Ed)

    Miss McBirnie was a fellowship-trained shoulder and knee surgeon (Fellowship in Toronto, 1998-1999). With over 20 years experience as an Orthopaedic Consultant, Miss McBirnie developed a reputation for expertise in shoulder arthroscopy and complex shoulder reconstruction. She also performed regular total shoulder replacement and reverse geometry shoulder replacement for osteoarthritis, inflammatory arthritis, rotator cuff arthropathy and post traumatic arthritis.

    Miss McBirnie is now happily retired.

  • Mr John Keating

    MB BCh (Hons), MPhil, FRCS (Ed) (Orth)

    Mr Keating was trained in Dublin, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Vancouver and appointed as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in 1994 to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

    His main clinical interests were in the management of knee injuries and sports injuries in general. Mr Keating ran a specialist knee clinic at the Royal Infirmary which dealt with a wide range knee problems, with an emphasis on the management of acute knee injuries in sports.

    He was involved in clinical and basic research, mainly related to knee disorders and lower limb trauma.

    Mr Keating is now happily retired.

  • Mr Iain Hunter Annan

    MBChB, FRCS Ed FRCS Ed Orth

    Mr Annan was a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the St John’s Hospital and Princes Margaret Rose Hospital from October 1986 until November 1995 and then at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and the Royal Hospital for Sick Children from December 1995 until April 2011 when he retired from practice. He continued with medicolegal work until fully retiring at the end of 2015. He now enjoys his retirement travelling and sailing with his wife and visiting his children.

  • Mr Daniel Edward Porter

    BSc, MBChB, MD, FRCS Ed (Tr&Orth)

    Mr Porter is now a full-time Orthopaedic Surgeon working in the Tsinghua University public health system in Beijing. Previously he worked for many years in both Edinburgh and Oxford Universities. He is active in clinical research in all the main Orthopaedic subspecialty areas and in basic research in tumor biology and inherited diseases. He is active in promoting good quality postgraduate education. He now endeavors to promote excellence in all these areas in Beijing and more widely in China.
