Professional Profile: I studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh where I also attained a BSc honours degree. I completed my orthopaedic training in South East Scotland before spending a year at The Prince Charles and Holy Spirit Northside Hospitals in Brisbane, specialising in hip and knee surgery using computer navigation.
I specialise in surgery of the lower limb and have a particular interest in hip and knee replacement where I have extensive experience in surgery performed for the first time (primary surgery) and in situations where the previous joint replacement fails and requires a redo (revision surgery).
In the last few years I have added to my experience with computer assisted surgery using the MAKO robotic arm. Having received training in the UK and Switzerland I now regularly perform both partial knee replacement and hip replacement with robotic assistance.
I also have experience of performing joint replacements in very young patients and in patients with prior deformities such as developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). I enjoy teaching and training other surgeons and am a regular faculty member on cadaveric hip and knee replacement courses.
My NHS practice is based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and the Roodlands Hospital, Haddington.
Personal Profile: I live in Edinburgh with my wife and two children. I have a passion for sport and have represented my country at both gymnastics and rugby and was formerly contracted professionally to the Scottish Rugby Union. I completed Ironman South Africa in 2007 and currently still enjoy cycling, skiing and kite surfing.
Fees: My fees range from £180 for an initial consultation to £110 for a follow up visit.
